Reading is a large town in the county of Berkshire. It has a population of around 150,000 people. Located in the Thames Valley and on the River Thames and River Kennet, also ideally situated on both the M4 motorway and the Great Western Main Line railway, with excellent links into London and Oxford especially. Other nearby towns include Basingstoke, Guildford, Wokingham and Maidenhead.
The history of Reading dates back to the 8th Century, and was also fairly prominent in the medieval period when the Reading Abbey was built. Reading is famous for its brewing, biscuits and brick making. Contemporary Reading is a commercial centre, with involvement in information technology and insurance, with lots of large multinational companies’ headquarters based in Reading. Reading is also known for its marathon and music festival.
